Tassel

Pictured above is the Grecian Rib Scarf. Below is a tutorial on how to make a tassel.

Wrap yarn around a piece of cardboard that is 1/2 inch longer than the desired finished length of your tassel.

(This piece of cardboard is approximately 6 inches tall resulting in a 5 1/2-inch tassel. I wrapped the yarn around approximately 40 times.)

Cut yarn.

Cut a 15-inch length of yarn and thread it on to a tapestry needle. Bring the needle under the wraps of yarn at the top of the cardboard. Remove the tapestry needle and tie a tight knot around the wraps of yarn. (Later you can use these tails to attach the tassel.)

At the opposite end of the cardboard, carefully slide the blade of a scissor between the wrapped yarn and the cardboard. Cut the wrapped yarn, freeing it from the cardboard.

Cut another 15-inch length of yarn. Lay it horizontally on a flat surface. Lay the tassel on top of the 15-inch strand so that the strand is approximately 3/4 of an inch from the top of the tassel. Tie a tight knot around the loose strands. Wrap the tails of the 15-inch strand around the cinched tassel a few times to cover the knot. To secure the tails, using a tapestry needle or crochet hook, bring them under the cinching strand from the top and down the center of the tassel to join the other strands of the tassel.

Gently shake out the tassel and trim the ends so they are even.

Use the tails at the top to attach the tassel.
