Purl Soho Videos: Finishing Techniques

Few things inspire as much dread in a new knitter as finishing techniques. It's such a bummer to put your heart and soul into a sweater or pair of socks only to have it all undone (sometimes literally!) by messy seams. We've been there, and we're here to help!

The latest Purl Soho Video Tutorials cover four basic finishing techniques: Three Needle Bind Off, Seaming Garter Stitch, Mattress Stitch, and Kitchener Stitch. Laura dissects each technique, explaining it step by step. Youll see, once you're walked through the process, finishing techniques aren't scary, and instead of feeling dread, you'll feel confidence, and who knows? Maybe even a little giddy anticipation!

So please visit our Knitting Tutorials Page here to view all of our video and photo tutorials. You'll find these four new videos, plus our previous video tutorials on increases and decreases, including a new and improved Yarn Over video! As always, please let us know if you'd like to see something in particular in the future! And happy finishing!

I used to use your photo tutorials religiously, but it was a bit of a pain scrolling back and forth between pics. It'll be great having all your incredibly clear, easy-to-follow instructions on video instead. I look forward to watching them.

Thank you for posting this tutorial! Finishing is usually where I have trouble with projects but your tutorial is super helpful! Thanks for sharing this!! :)

  3. Lauren says:

Thank GOODNESS you started making tutorials. The background is dark. The yarn is visible. The video is in focus. There's not too much chat. Love it!
How about future video tutorials on (1) brioche, (2) double knitting, (3) how to do a magic circle in crochet?
Your website continues to be a fantastic resource and inspiration. Thanks.

Finishing has always been challenging but you've made it look so simply. How I wish I could come to your shop but a trip from NZ is just a little too much! THANK YOU.

  5. Kelly says:

THANK YOU! I've had an unfinished project on the needles for forever because I attempted kitchener stitch and got everything tangled and got really frustrated. But your video is so clear it's inspired me to try again.

  6. Michiko says:

But how would you do a kitchener stitch for a double-face knitting project with two yarns of different color? We were shown this so briefly during the double-knit cowl class :-(
