Purl Beret

beret5.jpg

Koigu's handpainted yarn was a great choice for this project because it highlights the concentric circles of decreases that shape the beret.  This pattern can be loose and floppy or petite and tidy.  My Koigu beret turned out slightly bigger than I expected in the crown, but I like it (I've included notes to adjust the pattern to your taste below).  I hope you enjoy this fast and easy pattern as much as I have.  I'm working on a second beret right now!  -- Isabelle

I just finished this pattern in a different yarn. My friend and I rewrote the pattern for 6 stitches per inch and it came out perfectly. I don't know the yarn brand as I picked it up in a sale, no label, but it's majenta and a little fluffy. Looks and fits great!

I'm confuse about the big size of circular needle used for 128 cast on stitches. I cannot join this row. Please can someone explain me, sorry my english is not good :)

Hi Shira,
Your circular needle should be no longer than 16-inches in length (40 cm) otherwise you won't be able to connect the stitches.
Hope this helps!

I love this beret and have just started it. Is the beret in the photo considered 'petitie and tidy' or 'loose and floppy'? I would like my beret to fit like it and I want to know which pattern variations to follow. Thank you!

I would like to make this beret using Noro Silk Garden yarn but since I am a beginner could you help me with the size for circular needles and number of stitches to cast on?

Hi Thea,
The hat shown is "petite and tidy".
Good luck!

Hi Sue,
Switching the gauge of the yarn would mean a whole new pattern. I looked around online for you but didn't see much except on Ravelry. Do you know ravelry? Its a site with tons of free patterns and they have lots and lots of berets among many other things. If you're not already a member, you can sign up here, it usually takes just a day or two for them to approve new members.

Hope you find what you're looking for!
