Cashmere Cowl Pattern

cowl3

Gauge should be about 5 - 6 stitches per inch on US size 8 needles in K1, P1 Rib Stitch pattern. This stitch creates a very slinky, loose, and stretchy fabric that is breathable but still quite warm.

Loosely cast on an even number of stitches between 100 - 110.

Join into a round.  Take care not to twist your stitches as you begin knitting!  As you prepare to knit the first stitch, take a second to look at all of the stitches to make sure they are all heading in the same direction. not spiralling around the needle.

Rib Stitch pattern: *K1, P1, repeat from *.

Work in K1, P1 Rib Stitch pattern until cowl measures about 13 inches, or desired length. Bind off very loosely and weave in tails.

Isabelle,
Hey I picked out that yarn for that pattern earlier in November when I was visiting NYC! Were you the one that helped me choose the perfect one?Mine is on a size 6 but still lovely. I had to call the store the next day to find out how many stitches to cast on so I could knit on the plane back to San Francisco. I also purchased Habu Naturally Dyed Cashmere in Lac for another lovely version of the cowl. Maybe I'll try a larger needle for that one.

Thanks SO much for this free pattern! I just finished mine and it looked so plain I just didn't think it would have a 'style' when it was on. I used a slightly heavier weight merino so it's a bit of a tighter knit. But it's lovely! Even with the heavier yarn it has a bit of flop/fold that makes it look interesting. I need to make another one now. :) I so rarely finish knitting projects (I revert to crochet) so it's exciting to have something that turned out so well, and so easily. This is going to be staple winter studio wear I think. And you have a new Purl Bee fan! (I've started crochetting some lavender-filled Christmas trees already.)
