Cozy Hooded Baby Towel: Cut Fabrics

uploaded-file-11355

  • Cut one 10.5-inch square out of both the Trefle gauze and the terry Cloth.
  • Trim the remaining terry cloth into a 33-inch square, making sure to trim off the selvage edges.
  • Cut five 2-inch strips across the width of the treffle fabric and trim off the selvage edge. Each strip will be 2-inches wide by approximately 42-inches long. These strips will become the binding.

Am I missing something here? If the fabric is 50" wide, shouldn't you be able to cut both the 10.5" square for the hood & the 33" square for the main towel portion out of 1 yard? Is there some reason I'm not seeing for the extra yardage?

Hi Emily-
The fabric is actually 45"- I think there might be a typo on our website. Hope that clears it up for you and sorry for the confusion- Molly

Thanks for checking the width, Molly! I have seen it listed as 50" wide at some websites, 45" at others. Even if it is only 45", is there a reason that the 33" + 10.5" = 43.5" doesn't work (although with no room for error)? Is there that much shrinkage or more than a inch total for the selvages? Or, am I having one of those moments that does happen when I can't do simple math?
