Slip Stitch

Begin with a stitch on the hook. Insert your hook under both branches of the V.

Wrap the yarn around the hook from back to front, then draw the yarn through both the V and the stitch on your hook.

Dear Natalie,
the "v" is the first set of strands on the hook (not quite a stitch). The first stitch is the single strand on the hook (at the right).

Oh! Thank you for clarifying the "v". I was never sure if I should hook through one strand or both! Funny how a small detail is a huge detail. You made it very clear for me.
