Hand Piecing with Freezer Paper

blocksdj.jpg Emily has been piecing each block by hand, using a method of making templates out of freezer paper.  First Emily traces the block onto the freezer paper, numbering each piece according to which fabric it is and in the order she will be putting it together.  Then she cuts the pieces  apart and presses them with a hot dry iron onto  the wrong side of her fabric and carefully traces around each piece.  Then she cuts the pieces from the fabric with a 1/4" seam allowance.  She hand pieces her  blocks in the way that Molly explaines in her tutorial on hand piecing.

I like your Dear Jane blocks and colors. I'm doing her next book...Nearly Insane, using civil war fabrics--sooooo fun-yet insane...smile...You've got to use the machine if you want it finished in your lifetime...although, these size blocks make it a great take along project to do by hand...

I love your site. I have been trying to do Dear Jane for several months now, and I have decided to change to hand piecing. The main reason is that I love hand piecing, on any project, but I think to get the Jane blocks accurate, hand piecing is the way to go!

Keep up the good work, I will check back often!
