Fall is in full swing up here at school, and I desperately needed a new scarf to keep out the chill. Of course, it needed to be more than just warm! 

I already had the perfect yarn:  two luscious skeins of Alchemy Synchronicity in Soft Turquoise.  I chose Synchronicity because it is incredibly warm and soft, with a little bit of silky glow to it. 

 

For the pattern, I was inspired by Jen's basketweave scarf made out of Tilli Tomas silk that was featured on the Purl Bee earlier this fall. I love the simple detail of stitches overlapping each other.  I used US size 9 Addi Turbo needles and cast on 30 stitches and used a 5 stitch repeat (instead of 20 stitches with a 4 stitch repeat as Jen did).

Cast On: 30 stitches.

Rows 1 - 8:  K5, P5, K5, P5, K5, P5. 

Rows 9 - 16:  P5, K5, P5, K5, P5, K5.

Repeat rows 1 - 16 until scarf reaches desired length.  Mine was about 54 inches long before I blocked it.

As you can tell from the photo above, basketweave stitch curls on the edges a little bit when it is first knit.  To counteract the curl, I lightly blocked my scarf and let it dry for a few hours before wearing it.  For photos and directions on blocking, Isabelle and I put together a Blocking Tutorial. It only takes a few minutes, but my scarf looked really polished after blocking.  The stitches looked more even, and those blips in the knitting vanished (what mistakes ?!).
