Blocking the Scarf

As you can tell from the photo above, basketweave stitch curls on the edges a little bit when it is first knit.  To counteract the curl, I lightly blocked my scarf and let it dry for a few hours before wearing it.  For photos and directions on blocking, Isabelle and I put together a Blocking Tutorial. It only takes a few minutes, but my scarf looked really polished after blocking.  The stitches looked more even, and those blips in the knitting vanished (what mistakes ?!).

How pretty! I'm filing this idea for future use. ;-)

Thank you so much! I knew the basic but couldn't remember how to block it.. (its been a while!)

I tried doing this, the way you had it but it seems to not work. 30 stitches with a 5 stitch repeat doesn't work. I think you meant 35 stitches with a 5 stitch repeat, correct? I apologize if I sound cocky but I tried it and it did not seem to work with 30.

Dear Hera,
Sorry you couldn't get the pattern to work. It does have 30 stitches, not 35. Can you tell us more about what the problem was and we'll see how to help you out? Thanks!

Re the June 9 reply: This pattern is written WRONG - as it is written, it will not produce basketweave. Either do an UNEVEN # of repeats(ie 5K, 5P, 5K, 5P, 5K, proceed as written in blog), OR (as I did in the scarf I finished last night - it's easier) do an EVEN # of repeats (5K, 5P, 5K, 5P, 5K, 5P), repeat for 4 (or 5) rows, then start next row P5, K5, P5, K5, P5, K5 for 4 (or 5) rows, repeat from beginning.

Dear Barbara,
Oh dear, thank you so much for catching that error! I'll update the pattern momentarily. I think your second way of working the pattern is definitely much easier (in addition to being correct!)
Thanks again, Joelle

Thank you for this gorgeous scarf! It looks like you are sold out of the Alchemy yarn you used -- do you have any suggestions for another worsted-weight silk/wool blend?

Hi Nora,
Check out Alchemy's Silk Purse. It looks a lot like the yarn used in this scarf, but its 100% silk. You can find it here:
