Whitney Makes a Surprise Jacket Too!

Whitney seems to have become our Elizabeth Zimmermann knitter-in-residence!  This is her lovely Baby Surprise Jacket (sans buttons), knit with Koigu KPM.  (Curious about the beautiful background fabric? Its from Yuwa Fabrics in Japan, and you can find it here.)

Love the Koigu jacket. What size needs did you use and how many skeins?

Avice,
Whitney used 2 skeins of the off white color and one each of the other three. It was knit on a US size 4 needle.

Is it possible to do the baby surprise on two straight single point needles?

Dear Jacque,
Conceptually, it would be possible to knit this sweater on straight needles. You are only knitting it with circulars so that you can fit all of the stitches on. If you're knitting a very small size with a very fine yarn on very long needles, it MIGHT work. Let us know if you try it!

I was thinking of this in some koigu I have (4 skeins)...but by the time I'm done it will be for a one year old. Do you think it will fit?

I have 4ply Opal sock yarn that I wanted to use to knit the BSJ. Would this be the same ply as Canadian Regal and/or Koigu?

Thanks!

Dear Eva,
I'm not familiar with the Opal or the Canadian Regal. However if these two yarns are true "4 ply" yarns (gauge-wise), then the Koigu would be the same gauge. --Joelle
