Knitting for Beginners

 

Please bring at least one skein of worsted weight yarn and one pair of US #9 needles. You can take all three classes, or just one or two depending on your needs. If you take more than one, you must sign up for all classes at the time of purchase.
One class: $45
Two classes: $85

Class 1: First Steps

In this class you will learn how to cast on and the knit stitch.

Class 2: Purl and More

In this class you will learn how to purl and how to combine knit and purl stitches to create basic stitch patterns, such as stockinette, seed, and rib.

Class 3: The End!

In this class you will learn how to bind off, how to weave in ends, and other tips for completing your project neatly.

Pattern Help

This is the class to take when you're stuck on your pattern and need an experienced hand to help you out! Purl's knowledgeable staff is here to explain unfamiliar techniques and abbreviations, fix mistakes, and give great knitting and crochet advice.

Finishing Workshop

Don't let your fear of finishing prevent you from completing all of your holiday gifts! The class will cover a variety of finishing techniques, including both mattress and kitchener stitch as well as how to use them on all types of knit patterns. Please bring the following to class: two samples in stockinette stitch with live stitches (stitches still on the needle), and four completed samples, two in garter and two in stockinette stitch. All samples should not be smaller than a 4" square. Students are also encouraged to bring their own projects in need of finishing to work on if time permits.

Purl Workshop: Joelle's Giant Granny Square Blanket

Back by popular demand! Learn basic crochet with this gorgeous and colorful pattern for Joelle's Giant Granny Square Blanket. This is an great project for beginner crochets and it requires no seaming. You'll learn a variety of new techniques with the blanket, including slip knots, chaining, single crochet, double crochet, triple crochet, and slip stitches. There are no prerequisites for the class as it is for beginners. Materials are not included, so call or stop by the shop for a complete materials list. Please note that while you will learn all the skills to complete the blanket, you will not finish the blanket during class.

Personalized Caps with Mary Lou

 

Mary Lou's hat classes have been so popular that we can't stop offering them! In this class, Mary Lou will guide you through your first hat, teaching you a basic hemmed cap that can be personalized with initials. The workshop will cover knitting in the round on both circular and double pointed needles, decreasing, picking up stitches, duplicate stitch and basic finishing techniques. Prerequisites are casting on, knitting and purling. The hat pattern is included with the class, but materials are not, so call or stop by the shop for a complete list. This class is only available as a series.

Whit's Knits Workshop: Socks for Giving

 

We're already thinking ahead to Father's Day and Socks for Giving would be the perfect gift! Learn how to make socks with this easy and colorful pattern.  We'll guide you through double points, picking up stitches, decreasing, and kitchener stitch. Please note you will only complete one sock during class, and that there will be homework between classes. Prerequisites are casting on, knitting and purling. Materials are not included, so call or stop by the shop for a complete list. This class is only available as a series.

Cancellations, Refunds & Missed Classes

Because our shop is small, our classes are very limited in size. Cancellations must be made 48 hours before the start of the class in order to receive store credit, and no make up classes will be offered. Students who must miss class are encouraged to come into the shop during regular store hours for help.
