Manos del Uruguay Blanket

lblanket3.jpg

design source.jpegThis blanket is a wedding present for my best friend from high school.  I'm making it in my favorite wool ever,  Manos del Uruguay, which is the yarn it was designed for. The pattern is featured on the cover of "The Design Source Book of Home Decor" by Judith Shangold.

This one is constructed in a really interesting way.  You make four squares all the same and then sew them together so that you  get a diamond.  lblanket2.jpg

You start the squares by casting on 1 stitch and then increasing until you get a right-angle triangle; then decrease until you end up with one stitch.

You get to change colors and stitch patterns  often so it never gets boring.  lblanket4.jpg

It's a perfect project for someone who is new to knitting; you practice a variety of techniques all in one piece.  There are lots of ends to weave, though. That's the next step.  More pictures to come when it's sewn!  -- Leah

I adore this blanket!! I wish I had the pattern. Even with all the end weaving I would make it for my husband, who's been bugging me for a blanket, in a New York flat minute! Great job.

Hello, How many colors are used in this pattern?? I am ordering the book and want to pick the colors! So badly. I feel I want the yarn to arrive about the same time as the book to get started.

Dear Mandy,
It looks like Leah used 5 colors, 2 skeins of each. Have fun!

OH man! This is so awsome! I've been knitting now for almost a year and have been doing small projects here and there and during the holidays quick gifts. But this I am gonna try to make for my Dad and Stepmom who are in Uraguay as we speak! It'll be a great suprise when they get home to America.

Where can we find that pattern. I notice that the book the pattern is from is no longer available. Is the pattern reprinted in one of the books you have available by the author?

Thanks,
