Step 6: Test it out

Close the bag by pulling the ends of each cord.  One of the things I really like about these bags is that you can carry them around all closed up, but when you want to open them up, you can open them all the way and enjoy the fabric on the inside.  They become a miniature tablecloth to place your smallest treasures on.  Another thing I like is that they can be turned inside out and they'll still work. Enjoy!  --Isabelle

Thank you for such a simple and beautiful pattern. I have enjoyed it greatly. I would love a tutorial (or a link to one) on how to close up the seam after turning though. I'm a bit embarassed how that part looks currently but I'm giong to press ahead and finish the rest and then go back and fix that part. ;)

Dear Penny,
Here is a link to a great applique tutorial by Liesl at Disdressed. About half way down the page you'll see how she stitches the applique using what she calls the "ladder stitch". Its easily adapted to finihsing a seam. Hope this helps!

What a great pattern! I thought these would be a great and easy gift to make. I'm having a little trouble with getting my opening to close all the way. It's like the material is too thick when it squeezes together for it to close. Would it help if I started my cord tunnel farther away from the edge?

This is a great pattern! I recently got one as a gift at a baby shower and now want to try making my own. I just have one question, would you advice reinforcing the holes where the ribbon or cord goes in and out. Similar to a button hole. I am just wondering after time if it will begin to rip. I am a begginer sewer so was just curious. Thanks for the great idea!

Hi Tiffany,
Yes, if you're inclined to reinforce the opening it would be worth your while.
Happy New Year!

Wow, these are truly stunning little pouches! I've just started making jewelry and these would be perfect to send with my pieces. I'm definitely going to be ordering some fabric off the site soon and giving this a go. :)

So far I've been selling other people's jewelry pouches - your simple yet fantastic tutorial gives me an idea of developing my own products for sale someday, however I'm not that good at sewing. The fabric you use is very pretty - it looks like african design especially the finished works - they're gorgeous!

This was the perfect pattern I was looking for to make an evening bag out of very soft and silky fabric. Made a few modifications and started with 13" circles. I made the ruffle a little wider, put buttonholes on the reverse of the top layer for the casing openings, used elastic in the casing to keep the bag closed (but flexible enough to get in and out of) and then hand stitched a beaded handle on the inside of the bag. My muslin prototype came out perfectly, so now I can move on to the "good" fabric...and all this took little or no time. Thanks a million!
