Sew Hem

ziged-wrong-side

Using a zig zag stitch make your seam with a 1/4 inch seam allowance, begin along one side of the napkin. When you come to the corner, leave the needle in the down position, lift the presser foot, rotate napkin 90 degrees, then lower presser foot and continue to next corner.  Repeat at each corner.

Use the black thread on the orange fabrics and the orange thread on the black fabrics.

ziged-right

You're done!

once again you have provided a great "pictorial" for those of us who are still a little new to sewing. I like this project almost as much as the frog. Thanks for this great blog.

Molly - thanks so much for taking the time to create this tutorial! Looks fun and easy, and I'm having a dinner party this weekend - I might just retire my paper napkins from IKEA and give this project a whirl!

Fantastic project! I'm excited to try this. I was hoarding really cute polka dots. Turns out, I was hoarding them to make a great set of cocktail napkins for year-round shindigs. :^)

The corner tutorial was so helpful! I added a step and placed a square cut from waterproof burpcloths as a bottom layer before the final edge folding. Keeps the furniture from getting wet as the water drips down the glasses.

Thanks so much for sharing this edge technique! I just made a set of 8, 16in. napkins. I used a straight stitch in matching color for the seam, and then used a contrasting thread color and did an overcast stitch on the edges all the way around. I am amazed at how great they turned out, especially since I made them as a gift for my mother- in-law. Thanks for all the great pics and instructions. I love your site, and will have it bookmarked forever!
