Is it just me (very possible!) or does row 4 of the pattern decrease the total stitch count by one stitch? This is a beautiful scarf!

Try changing row 4 to: K2tog, yo, *K4, yo, sl1-K2tog-psso, yo* (repeat from * to * 2 more times if working scarf over 29 stitches) K4, yo, ssk.

Hi Knitters,

For Row 4, remember that there is one last yarn over before the final K4, ssk. Thanks Robin for offering an alternative way to read the pattern that may seem more clear:

Row 4: K2tog, yo, *K4, yo, sl1-K2tog-psso, yo* (repeat from * to * 2 more times if working scarf over 29 stitches) K4, yo, ssk.

Keep us posted, everyone!

Hi! This is a beautiful scarf and I would like to make it as a shawl. I thought I could simply double the pattern, casting on 58 stitches, but I'm unsure this will work. Since I am new to lace knitting I am having a hard time figuring out the math on this one. Any advice is much appreciated!

Hi,
I'm attempting to start this scarf (after purchasing this GORGEOUS yarn in sour apple) and I'm having trouble with the numbers. It seems like I need to cast on 37 to get the pattern to work out. Does this sound right? I've been knitting about a year now but I'm pretty certain of the various increases (yo's) and decreases (k2tog's) and slipping.

thanks for all your help!

Hi Sarah,
I've just checked over the numbers and they work as written, so I'm wondering where you're getting mixed up? Make sure you're not knitting a stitch when you're supposed to yo, that is usually where people get mixed up. A yarn-over is simply wrapping the yarn once around the right needle. Please let me know if this doesn't clarify the problem you're having. --Joelle

Thanks Joelle!

That was TOTALLY it!!! It's working out beautifully and may I add that no computer monitor can do justice to the sheeny silkiness of this yarn! OMG, it just glows, especially in sour apple. I'll try to remember to send a pic when I'm done.

thanks again,
Sarah

Hi Delia,
Just bind off as you normally would, all knitwise on the right side, it will automatically make the V shapes.

This is such a beautiful scarf. I would love to make it, but I just can't make the count work out. I have tried it by knitting before the yo and I have tried w/o knitting before the yo. When I tried it with the knit and yo I was used 28 stitches and then ended a stitch short. Then, on row 4 I really don't get that count even with your revision because it seems it should be 4 stitches less. I really want to make this scarf! Is there any hope for me or should I just give it up.

Hi Nancy,

It sounds like you may be adding a knit stitch to your yarn over. A yarn over does not actually include any knitting or purling. In this case, it is JUST the act of bringing the yarn forward between your needles to the purl position. So, for example, when the pattern says "K2tog, yo, k3", you will knit two together, bring the yarn forward into the purl position, and knit 3.

Please let us know if this clarification solves your problems! The pattern is correct, so if this advice doesn't help, we'll have to troubleshoot somewhere else!

Thanks for your question and good luck!
