Whit's Knits: Daisy Stitch Hand Warmers

2hands.jpgSometimes I don't want the encumbrance of mittens or gloves. Opening locks, digging out money, pushing cell phone buttons...I need finger mobility! I think the warmth question is debatable. Once you've removed your mittens to apply your chapstick, your hands are way colder than they would have been if you'd just kept your hand warmers on. That's my theory anyway... You can test out my theory yourself by visiting my Daisy Stitch Hand Warmer Project Journal.  --Whitney

They look great...I think I might have to find myself a pair when winter kicks in here...hopefully not until June or so. Have a great & crafty 2008!

This is just what I need for working on the computer--my mouse hand always gets so cold, but you can't type with gloves on!

I love this fingerless fashion. I just happen to find this website via squarespace.com. I would love to make a pair for myself, but I have no talent in this field what-so-ever (yes, my mother is very disappointed). I'm just not coordinated. However, if anyone out there knows where I could go to order or have them made for myself - please let me know. Of course I would be willing to pay for the trouble. Just send me the info via my email address @ hall3837@bellsouth.net. Thanks for ya'lls help. Its cold here in the south (Atlanta).

Brilliant pattern. Just started to make these. I would like to make a matching scarf with the left over wool. My plan is to just start as hand warmer pattern and keep going, ignoring thumb instructions etc. Any suggestions, tips. Cheers.

Hi Liz,
If you want to knit your scarf flat, I gave the instructions to another reader. Read the comments at the end of the pattern, you should see them! Or a tube scarf sounds really cool too. You can make it wider by casting on any multiple of four stitches. -Whitney

I was looking for instructions on how to do a daisy stitch, and yours was the best! And your mittens are just gorgeous!
