Molly's Sketchbook: Felted Wool Star Ornaments

OR-Beauty-2

Decorating the Christmas tree is one of the most rewarding parts of the holidays. It can be so simply creative; stringing popcorn, cutting out paper dolls and snowflakes, or making elves out of pipe cleaners. In this spirit I made these star shaped ornaments out of the lovely, hand dyed felted wool by Mary Flanagan in the "wheat field" spectrum.  I was inspired by the rich, elemental colors to add some simple gold beading. The whole process, from cutting to stuffing to beading, takes about half an hour and is a very enjoyable way to spend a cold winter evening indoors. If you want to make some of your own you can follow along with my Star Ornament Project Journal.

Happy tree trimming! --Molly

Oh! I love these. Everything about them! The colors are truly lovely. As are the tiny details.
A garland of them would be perfect in my orange dining room.
Does anyone know how to stop time for a while?

I just showed these to my husband who suggested placing spices inside, such as cinnamon and cloves. What a great idea! I was also thinking about using some of my cookie cutters for patterns.

Thesea are so cute!! I did make some with poly felt and embroidery floss I had on hand. I could not get that knot right though, at the top of the star, base of the loop. As I wrapped the thread around the tip, it would just slide off and get all messy. I'm wondering if the thicker cotton embroidery thread would make a difference? I just fudged the loop knot and wrapping. Do you have any advice for getting a good wrap and knot for the top of the star?
