Spring Classes at Purl Patchwork!
We're introducing wonderful intermediate sewing classes at Purl Patchwork this spring! We are happy to have three fantastic teachers hosting the classes: New York designer and blogger Liesl Gibson, textile designer Heather Ross, and fiber artist Cassandra Thoreson.
Machine Sewing Level 2 with Liesl
Learn to read a pattern as you make a tote bag designed by Liesl. Sewing machine experience is required. You must have your own sewing machine at home.
Cute Backpack Tote with Liesl
Combine your sewing skills in a cute and practical convertable backpack tote designed by Liesl (and on display now at Purl Patchwork). Sewing experience is required. This is a great class to take you to the next level as it includes a button, a zipper, and a lining.
Baby Girl Clothes with Heather Ross
Learn to sew three basic styles of sundresses and blouses for girls age 6 months - 6 years. Some sewing experience is needed, and a machine at home is recommended.
Spring Coats with Heather Ross
This class explores the basic elements of making a very simple (but very stylish) coat with a lining. Previous sewing experience is a must, as is a sewing machine at home.
Insider’s Shopping Tour of the Garment District with Liesl
A guided introduction to some of the best sources for fabric, trims and notions in New York. Tours will be provided by sales people, and time will be allowed for shopping. Bring your ideas and we'll help you shop for the materials you'll need for your planned projects. Or just come to be inspired. We'll visit at least 5 shops and provide a more extensive list of other terrific sources in the neighborhood as well. We'll also have an hour break for lunch at a local restaurant (the price of lunch is included in the class fee).

ON A SIDE NOTE
Artist Mary Cassatt, whose painting is shown above, gave us an intimate view of home life that is modern, bustling, and sincere. We find this world of warm faces, sunlight, and hand work to be perfectly familiar. Just trade in some of those flowing dresses for jeans and we can imagine Cassatt's women walking in the front door at Purl, toddlers in tow, with shopping bags, projects, and wonderful conversation.
Learn more about Mary Cassatt and see more of her work.
