Prospect Park Flax and Fleece Fest
Until the 1930s, Prospect Park was home to many fleecy Brooklynites like the ones pictured above grazing in the Long Meadow. Today, you'll only find sheep at the Prospect Park Zoo, where fiber fans of all ages are invited to the annual sheep-shearing this weekend. This free family event includes hands-on lessons in collecting, carding, and spinning wool fresh from the sheep.
At the Lefferts Historic House, an 18th century farmhouse adjacent to the Park Zoo, you can help plant this year's flax crop and learn how flax is spun into linen.
Don't miss the Linsey-Woolsey weaving workshop, where you can weave your own traditional linen and wool fabric.
Here's a link to more info about this weekend's Arbor Day festivities in Prospect Park.
The Sakura Matsuri is also in full swing this weekend at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden in Prospect Park. Read our post about national Cherry Blossom Festivals.

What an enjoyable day trip this would be! Why does planting flax sound like so much fun? :D
I caught the article on your shops and projects and Joelle's home in Blueprint. So beautiful and so inspiring! As a Texas gal, I don't make it to NYC often, but I'm thinking I may have to make a sooner-than-expected trip... just to shop in person!
Thanks for the daily inspiration and availability of quality, fun products!
A fan,
Brin
