Purl Exclusive! Liesl + Co. Backpack Tote Pattern

liesl.backpack.JPG

Lots and lots of requests poured in for this fantastic backpack/tote bag pattern, which was the focus of a class that Liesl taught at Purl Patchwork this spring.  liesl.backpack.2.JPG

The lovely and talented Liesl (author of disdressed) devised this pattern for ambitious beginner and intermediate crafters who want to tackle more advanced techniques.  This practical bag-about-town has interior and exterior pockets, a zipper, and extra-sturdy construction techniques. The proportions are perfect for everything from books to baby bottles, with plenty of room for yarn and knitting needles, too.

Now you can buy the Liesl+Co. Backpack Tote Pattern, by itself or accompanied by the hardware.  The rings and rivets used fasten the straps come in two different finishes: gold or silver. We have a limited quantity of this great pattern, so get it while it's hot (outside)!

Purl Soho is selling this great convertable backpack/tote pattern by Liesl+Co. You can buy the pattern by itself for $15 or for $24 with accompanying antique gold or silver hardware. See more photos of the bag on designer Liesl's...

Hi,

This comment is more of a question to make sure I don't get the wrong stuff. Does "medium weight fabric" mean regular quilting cotton or something heavier?

Thanks :)

Dear Peanut, it means that you should use at least a quilt weight cotton, but heavier will give the bag more structure. For example, Liesl used the cotton canvas fabrics we have from Kokka. You can view our canvas fabrics at these links:

Yay! I'm so excited about this - I missed out on the class this spring and have been checking the shop for the pattern!

Gah! Was this in the shop last week and I missed it?? Both stores are great and everyone was so friendly. I am already making a list of things I "forgot" for next time...

Are you all out of the pattern? Followed the link but led to "could not find"!

is the pattern already sold out? the link in the post doesn't work, and i can't find the pattern through browsing on the website. i want it!

Hi Cocoabliss and cp3! The pattern is indeed sold out! Liesl is getting another batch printed up right now, so we'll have it back soon. We'll definitely be posting it on the purl bee as soon as we have it again! --Joelle

OK, this is more of a question as well. I'd love to make this for my sister in law - she's having a baby! How does this change into a backpack? Am I just not seeing it properly?

Hi Amber,
The straps slide through a "D" ring to become either a tote or a backpack. In the photo above its in its "tote" mode.
