Quick Sewing Tip for the Purl Frog

frogfern.jpg

We were so glad to see how many people enjoyed making our Purl Frog!  One reader sent us a great tip for making this simple project go even faster.  Give it a try!

This bit of advice comes from Barbara:

Thanks for sharing the pattern for the "amiable amphibians".  They're wonderful.  I have a suggestion rather than a question.  Instead of cutting out the pattern pieces  and then sewing them together, I find it easier to use another method.  Place the two layers of fabric right sides together, then trace the pattern shape onto one layer.  Place a few pins inside [the lines of the shape you traced to hold the layers] together.  Sew the two layers together 1/4  inch inside the drawn line, then cut.  I find I have much more control this way.

Check out a pond full of Purl Frogs in their own Purl Frog Flickr Group!  We hope you'll share your frog photos with us, too.

Oh, yeah! After trial and error, that's how I did some of the similar ones I made several years ago and it was much easier. It also doesn't hurt to keep the stitch length pretty small and even do a second row of stitching right up next to, or even on top of the first. The ones I made get quite a lot of pretty rough play and have needed mending over time.

I finally got to visit Purl in SoHo. The colors are FANTABULOUS!! I mean it. It was so great to be surrounded by all those colors. And, it got me to buy things I had no thought of getting before I was engulfed by those amazing colors.

I probably seem to be excessively gushing, but it was so fabulous. Now I want a wall like that at home! Even a partial wall!

I can't wait for my next trip to your store.
