Piecework Pincushion Contest!
PieceWork Magazine has a fun new theme for its 2008 Excellence in Needlework Awards contest: Pincushions! Knitting Daily, the email newsletter from Interweave Press (which deserves an Excellence in Needlework Award itself, if you ask us), describes the humble and helpful pincushion as a representative of "the historical aspects of needle arts, which is the focus of PieceWork magazine". As pincushion devotees, we couldn't agree more! Here's the link to the contest details, including where and when to send in your creations for a chance to win fabulous prizes.
If you are new to PieceWork, check out the September/October 2007 issue, which includes a variety of techniques, materials, cultures, and styles in typical PieceWork fashion. We love the rich histories and fascinating articles that touch on sewing, knitting, weaving, crochet, embroidery, and pretty much anything having to do with thread or yarn. This issue features Indian quilts made from recycled clothing, intricately hand quilted bonnets from South Africa, and American quilts of the Civil War era, as well as knitted quilt squares from one of our favorite knitters, Ann Budd. PieceWork provides endless inspiration from around the world and our own backyard, celebrating the history of crafts and contemporary crafters all at once!
