Whit's Knits: Mary Jane Slippers

end.jpg

When I was seven I relished any chance I could get to wear my black patent leather Mary Jane's. No event was too insignificant! Now I like to shuffle around my apartment in these knit slippers reminiscent of the classic style.

comic.jpgSome historical perspective: Mary Jane was sister to Buster Brown, star of the early 20th century comic, Buster Brown. The Brown Shoe Company licensed the names and characters of the strip and made Mary Jane Shoes what they are today. Cute and sassy!

To make your own knit slippers you can go to my Mary Jane Slippers Project Journal where you'll find the pattern.  Visit my Attached I-cord Tutorial for details on how to complete the edging and my Kitchener Stitch Tutorial for directions on grafting live stitches to complete the Attached I-cord. --Whitney

Adorable! I'd love to make mommy/daughter matching ones. Do you think it would be best to play with the number of stitches or just experiment with a different gauge in order to fit a child?

I actually learned something! I didn't know who Mary Jane was. Thanks for that lesson. I would love to see a child's size in this! Cute, cute!

Very cute and hip with endless color variations and decoration possibilities. First glance at the photo and I thought, what adorable baby booties! Have you experimented with any tiny versions?
