Molly's Sketchbook: A Wedding Quilt
When I found out my dear friends Nicole and Marty were getting married I knew I had to make them a wedding quilt. Their wedding colors are festive and bright: yellows, reds, and pinks so I knew what colors I would use, but I didn't know what the pattern would be. Then one day I was walking around my parent's Berkeley, California neighborhood and saw the most beautiful quilt hanging on a wall through someone's window as I was admiring their garden ( I swear I wasn't just walking around peeping in windows!). I quickly drew the basic layout of the quilt (I still have no idea what the pattern is called) and got to work.
This is a great project for using up some of your favorite stash fabrics. I used a lot of fabrics I've been hoarding away for far too long (in some cases years...). I mixed my prints with bright Kona Cotton Solids and luminous Shot Cottons.
The clean modern design is simple to piece and a joy to see come together. To make the project even simpler, once I was done piecing the top I sent it away to our friends at Cranberry Quiltworks to be quilted and bound. It came back to me neatly finished and ready to be given away. My friends were thrilled with their quilt and I was so happy to give them something they'll have forever to remind them of their wedding. We love you! Thank you Thank you Thank you!
what a stupendous gift!
Beautiful colours Molly.
Oh, and maybe it's cheating, i'm not sure - but since all my pieces were the same size, I went to Lowe's and got a piece of fiberglass cut to the the size i needed (for about $2 total) and then used it as a pattern so I didn't have to measure and mark 150 pieces - saved hours of time!
