Thanksgiving Table Appliqued Quilted Runner + Fringed Napkins

We are so excited about our Thanksgiving project this year.  Page, Molly and I decided to work on something together, quilting bee style, and what better occasion to do so than for Thanksgiving! It is such a pleasure to work side by side with friends or family to create something beautiful and timeless for such a special day. We got more quality time together than we’ve had in a long time and it left us wishing we could do all our projects like this.

The table runner is extra thick so although it looks pretty its true function is as a hot pad that runs the length of your table. Now you can have a piping hot turkey and all of those yummy side dishes within arms reach of your guests without the worries of burn marks on your dining table. Add Molly's beautiful oversized napkins to catch every drip and you’ll be able to relax during one of the more stressful meals of the year!

While Molly made the napkins Page and I tackled the runner. As I was cutting, Page was sewing and Molly was fringing. When it came time to hand applique the squares, we did so in tandem at opposites ends of the runner.  We had a few tug-o wars, but we settled them in a mature fashion!

We wanted the whole ensemble to be warm, cozy and natural while also feeling happy, colorful and contemporary. We used Globalweave’s Linen Blend for the background of the runner and the napkins. For the appliqued squares and binding, we used a cheerful array of polka dots accented with Japanese florals.

If you'd like to make you own visit our Thanksgiving Table Appliqued + Quilted Runner and Fringed Thanksgiving Napkins Project Journals.

Happy Thanksgiving! --Joelle

Can I just say that I'm continually impressed by how increasingly awesome each project gets on Purl Bee? Just when I'm finished picking out supplies for one, you post another project for me to drool over.

Keep up the amazing work! I'll be busy with my sewing machines and knitting needles for a while!

This table runner is such a fabulous project. I love the applique accents on the simple linen fabric. And the napkins are so simple and fun. This will look elegant on my table, and then on my buffet for a holiday party. I love the image of the three of you working on this together - so festive.

The color palate is so unexpected and wonderful. I love this idea for Thanksgiving. You've inspired me to get creative this year for my table setting.

The runner is fun but the napkins are even better! I always wait to figure my table out till the last minute - I'm inspired to start early this year.

JEEZ that is gorgeous. I just got a new tablecloth for Thanksgiving last year, but now I want to make this. What a great present for a winter wedding, too. Beautiful. Thank you.

I love this! I will be making a set for my own house, even though we don't host thanksgiving there. On a side note, I've had a life long obsession with wood handled flatware and I really enjoy the ones you've used to prop this table...any chance you know where they came from?? thx!

I have a ton of "how to make a quilt" books. But the instructions for this project, a meticulous text combined with great pix, apply to all quilt making--and they're better than any of those books! What a great resource! Thank you! Anne

Love the festive table runner and napkins. Have you thought of kitting this? If so, I'll be first in line to purchase.

Love this idea! I was thinking of adding some keepsakes too or photos perhaps. My grandmother used to make doily tablecloths (I don't know how or how long they took!) but it would be cool to integrate something like that too...hmmm...sorry thinking out loud! This blog just gets my brain buzzing!
