Molly's Sketchbook: Fourth of July BBQ Apron

apronwoman.jpg

The basic idea behind this one-size-fits-(almost)-all adjustable apron came from an apron my parents have. I've always liked it because I can get it to fit exactly the way I want it to fit. The adjustable tie is such a simple concept yet it makes for an apron that fits almost anyone, men, women, short and tall.  Best of all this project is very quick! (The whole thing took me about 4 hours.)

I used upholstery weight Echino fabric which makes the final apron sturdy enough for barbecuing and the bold striped print is a modern, graphic take on the traditional red, white and blue motif. It would be a great gift for any grill master or mistress on this Fourth of July. Visit my Forth of July BBQ Apron Project Journal to make one of your own! Happy Barbecuing! --Molly

This looks so easy and is a great idea for a hostess gift. Just what I was looking for. Thanks for the inspiration.

That's so neat! It makes me want to drag out my sewing machine. :-)

An abashed PS to my prior post: who needs "Christmas" fabrics? The traditional colorways, as well as lots of celebratory fabric, are all around. Joel Dewberry's Ginseng has a lovely pinkish red with green, and Alexander Henry always has outrageously fun colors. I think particularly Anna Maria Horner's Garden Party has lots of possibilities for a nontraditional holiday look. (I know because I just ordered some.) Thanks again, Purl Bee!
