Whit's Knits: Stars + Stripes Felted Hot Pads

4thbothfinal.jpg

Whatever our politics, I think we can all agree that America really lucked out in the flag department. Our flag just embodies great design. It's bold and distinctive and jaunty. It's happy, but not insipid; spunky, but not undignified. I think it perfectly suits us as a country.

This Fourth of July, I'm celebrating the fresh graphics of the American flag with some flag-inspired hot pads. Your Fourth of July barbeque may be an ideal place to debut them, but they'll certainly fulfill their function year round! The striped hot pad is very easy, a great start for beginners. And the star version is a good a place to either learn or to perfect intarsia techniques with our new Intarsia Knitting Tutorial.

To make a set, please visit my Stars + Stripes Felted Hot Pads Project Journal. Thanks! - Whitney

We DID luck out in the flag dept. It's such a cool flag. :p Funny, I was just thinking the other day that we also lucked out in the national anthem dept...you hear a lot of different ones when your dh is a sports mad freak, and there are not many I really like as much as the US one (NO bias, either! lol) I will say the NZ one, sung both in English and Maori, is pretty nice, too, though.

I think these will be perfect for my kind of french kitchen! It's red, blue, and yellow, with touches of white. The yellow is for the riviera sun and the red white and blue for the flag. Great designs! I hope my stars come out as straight when I felt them?!Funny how so many flags use the same colours.
