Whit's Knits: Baby Bloomers

BBgiacomo.jpg

Page's daughter, Coco, has been wearing a vintage pair of these adorable cotton bloomers for years. First, she wore them over her diapers. Then the bloomers grew right along with Coco into her toddlerhood, where she now wears them as shorts.

I decided to make my friend Giacomo a similar pair. Giacomo's mom, Giovanna, loves them because they remind her of old photographs of her father as a little boy in Milan wearing exactly the same shorts. Some designs are just timeless!

To make a pair for a little person in your life, please go to my Baby Bloomers Project Journal. Thanks! - Whitney

This is adorable! I love it! I am trying to get the gauge, but it is off a lot! (like 6st per inch even with smaller needle). Is that correct? thanks for the pattern!

I love letting my baby boy crawl around in only his diaper in the summer but the disposable diapers we use are so ugly (illustrations of elmo and the like all over them). This is the perfect solution. Thanks so much!

Oh, these are the cutest things! I'd love to make one for my blog. I'm not the best knitter but I do love to sew. Do you know of any place to buy knitted sweater material by the bolt? I must tell you I am so glad I stumbled upon this blog. I have a sewing blog where I make clothes for my little girls and give them away every week. I added you to my list of favorites IMMEDIATELY. This site is so inspirational.

These little bloomers have inspired me to learn how to knit! These are so European and classic. Thank you for sharing your projects and tutorials with all of us!

I am so sad that this is a knit pattern. How I wish it was crochet. All of the crochet bloomer patterns are so ugly compared to this!

Cute but they look like they fall off easy. How do you stop them from doing that? Maybe it's just the picture? they look cute but not very practical?

Hi Purlone,
the bloomers have a 1-inch elastic waistband that holds them up, it really does!
