Molly's Sketchbook: Felt Gift Tags

Like so many of you I try to make many of my holiday gifts and decorations. I find myself using wool felt often for these projects because it's so easy to work with and comes in the most amazing, vivid colors. I'm often left wondering what to do with all the odd sized scraps I have left over. It always seems such a pity not to use them but I don't really need any more scraps in my life (I already have a whole bin full of them!). This year I decided to put them to use and make little gift tags.

I wanted these to be a fun, stress-free kind of project because as we all know, no one needs any added stress this time of year. With all the travel, shopping, cooking, and entertaining going on I just wanted these tags to be a nice thing to do while watching holiday specials on TV or hanging out by the fire. If you get 3 of them done, great! If you manage to sew a dozen, bully for you! There's no pressure, you already have the presents, this is just the cherry on top!

If you'd like to make your own please visit my Holiday Gift Tag Project Journal.

We at The Purl Bee, purlsoho.com, Purl Patchwork, and Purl would like to wish you and yours a very merry Christmas!!!!  -- Molly

Love this idea. You could change the shape up, too -- it'd be really cute in a circle and the bottom of a glass would make a great template!

Such cute tags! I'd bet it would also work with any fabric with interfacing ironed to the back...like holiday fabric scraps (so the edges don't fray). Thanks so much.

These also might work for luggage tags and they would make identifying your suitcase so easy. Such a great project...it inspires so many ideas.

Beautiful tags!! Thanks for the inspiration.

Where you do get the plain wrapping from? I can't seem to find any thin enough for packages - just the shipping kind. Thanks!
