Molly's Sketchbook: Sunny Tied Quilt

I am so ready for this winter to end! Enough already! Each morning I wake up full of hope that it will be warm, but when I check the weather I'm usually confronted with "highs in the upper 40s". The excitement of hunkering down for the winter has long since faded, but spring hasn't really yet sprung (at least not in New York). So as an invocation to Spring, I made this cheerful, sunny and quick tied quilt.

I used lots of richly colored Kona Cotton and P & B Color Spectrum solids in colors that remind me of warm sunshine and new leafy growth. Then I made sure that everything about this project was a breeze, from the super easy pin-less piecing, to the zig zag stitched binding. I wanted this double sized quilt to represent a break from the hard slog of winter and a movement towards the relaxed and sunny days to come.
One of the reasons this quilt is so quick to make is that it's not actually quilted, it's tied. I used Cascade 220, a 100% wool yarn to do the ties. This is not a superwash wool so when I wash the quilt the ties will felt, which means they won't come untied. Additionally this quilt doesn't have an attached binding, the back is actually folded over to the front and stitched down, which cuts down on finishing time. This quilt can easily be made in one weekend.

And like you, I've simply begun Spring.
Your quilt is really a bright bold step, and I like that you have chosen patterns and colors that will take you right into summer. The doodlybits with the yarn are my favorite.
Let's keep wishing for that weather to change!
