Something Blue: Jen's Wedding Garter

Last summer my sister, Jen, was married to Ray.  As oldest sister I assumed the job of finding "something blue" for her wedding.  I made one of these pretty blue garters using left over Liberty of London Tana Lawn and elastic bobbin thread. I was surprised at how quickly and easily the whole thing came together. The garter proved so popular that family members and friends have started requesting them and Jen has since made one for the wedding of a family friend.

This is a truly simple project to make (it takes less than an hour) and a great use of the Tana Lawn, which is a singularly spectacular fabric. All of this make it such a special gift.  If you have a bride who could use "something blue" please visit the Something Blue: Jen's Wedding Garter Project Journal to make one of your own. --Joelle

This almost makes me want to cut up my blue smocked baby dress for the same purpose.

should it be a tight tension?

To find the "diameter of the bride's thigh," would you measure the circumference then divide by pi? Or perhaps the circumference alone would suffice. Just sayin'.

Hi Margaret,
Oops! I meant to say the circumference! I'm changing the pattern now.
thanks!

I made this for my best friends wedding. I cut up an old prom dress and had and it was very easy and the instructions were great. the hint about ironing to help made a HUGE difference in the appearance. The only problem I had was that since I used a plan white satin material I wanted to add some silver trim. If you want to put something in the middle make sure it fits within the final dimensions. I will send a pic of the final product!!
