Molly's Sketchbook: Woven Felt Placemats

Handmade placemats are a great way to add some color and a unique touch to your table. I wanted to create a modern set that would work well for outdoor dining in the summer that would also to be easy to make. These woven felt placemats require no sewing so they can be a fun all-family project!

To make these, I used wool felt since it lays flat and needs no hemming. I picked our Spring Wool Felt bundle as my color palette and set it on a background of soft white. Weaving the pretty colors through the white felt is such a fun technique, and it's very satisfying to watch each mat come together. I love the calm and cool greens of the Spring Bundle but I also experimented with some warmer tones as well.

Here is a placemat made with the sunny, summery Dahlia Bundle:

And here is another one made with the rich red tones of the Spice Bundle:

If you'd like to make you're own set please  visit my Woven Felt Placemats Journal here. Thanks!-- Molly

Cute idea. I've done this with paper many a Thanksgiving, growing up. It would be nice to have the work last a little longer like it would with felt.

I've tried this once before - and it turned out pretty good.. but I think I've somehow misplaced them! These are so cute though - I might just try again!

What a great idea! Something those of us lacking knitting skills could totally pull off!

Perfect .. just the placemats I need. Thanks for a simple 'no sewing' craft .. this I can and will do!
