Wren Handmade: Crocheted Bracelets

These wonderfully charming crocheted bracelets were created by the especially gifted and unique artist, Laura Normandin of Wren Handmade, who we are proud to call our friend. A few of us had the good fortune and pleasure of working with this super talent back in the day, and her stunning creations and range as an artist amazed us then and continues to now. Laura's work is delicate, whimsical, elegant, and timeless. She crafts everything from handmade dolls, to granny square art, to paper goods and jewelry. Almost all of what she creates is on such a miniature scale. She is often asked how she hasn't lost her eye sight from all this meticulous work, but lucky for us, her eyes are still going strong.

Before she started crocheting, she found herself thinking of the chunky acrylic yarn afghans she had grown up with. Once she learned to crochet, she thought it would be fun to alter the scale of those afghans to achieve a more refined look and found that by pairing the right size hook with the right size yarn, it was not only possible, but enjoyable. Her pieces draw you in, begging you to admire their seemingly impossible, yet beautiful detail. Her necklaces and hairclips are probably the tiniest of her pieces and leave us awe struck. Laura enjoys creating her pieces from extra bits left over from other projects. This way of working results in her unique and unexpected color combinations.

We were so thrilled when Laura generously agreed to share the pattern for these sweet bracelets here on the Purl Bee which she made entirely from Valdani embroidery thread. She likes coming up with repeat patterns for her bracelets which gives them a Fair Isle feel. If you'd like to create one of these charming bracelets for yourself (or a lucky friend), please visit our Wren Handmade: Crochet Bracelet Project Journal.
Thank you, Laura!
P.S. If you'd like to see the rest of Laura's brilliant work (or buy a bracelet rather than make it), visit wrenhandmade.com or her Etsy shop.
