Mary Flanagan Felted Wool Patchwork Quillow

From the moment we saw these gorgeous bundles of ten uniquely textured and hand dyed felted wools from Mary Flanagan, we knew we wanted to make a patchwork blanket with them.  They seemed to be made just for this purpose since felted wool doesn't require hemming, plus it's very soft, warm and inviting.  When we got our bundle home and began to design the quilt, we realized that we would only need nine of the ten pieces to make it, but we were determined to use all 10.  It occurred to us that we could use the 10th piece to make a simple pocket on the back of the quilt into which the entire piece could be folded to make a pillow, and our quilt became a quillow!  It was meant to be.

We have long loved all of the hand dyed felted wools from Mary Flanagan and have carried their solid colored wools at Purl Soho for many years.  So when we saw their breathtaking textured wool bundles this October we fell head over heels for them!  We are so inspired by each palette's rich world of color, which because of the 10 different textures is complex and varied even though it's only one dye bath for all 10 pieces.  You can find all ten of our Textured Felted Wool Bundles right here.

The drape and weight of this wool truly makes the perfect lap quilt for those chilly winter days and the perfect little pillow at night or while traveling, or for stashing on your favorite chair.

If you'd like to make one please visit our Felted Wool Patchwork Quillow Project Journal right here.

Happy Winter! --Page and Joelle

It is really beautiful. Another project to lust after. I currently knitting a blanket and I am tempted to stop and make one for the intended recipient out of this felt instead...thanks Purl for once again putting me in a creative quandary!

Wool blanket is to die for and absolutely love the wire wreath hanging on the wall in the background. Did you make the wreath as well? Would love to have some details....
