Molly's Sketchbook: Bunny Finger Puppets!

I love Easter baskets! There isn't a lot of gift pressure like there is with Christmas gifts or Valentine's Day and best of all Easter baskets celebrate Springtime!  I love the convergence of bunnies, chicks and dyed eggs.

This year, I thought it might be nice to hand sew a little gift that could go in an Easter basket. I wanted this project to fit in with a breezy Spring attitude so I knew it had to to be quick and cute. After dreamily doodling bunnies for a little while I came up with the idea of finger puppets. I sewed my first bunny's shape and then decided to give him a face. I embroidered his nose, his eyes, and then added his little whiskers. By the time I made his cotton pom pom tail I felt like a sewing Pygmalion, I loved this little guy! Anyone who came over to my apartment had to behold how cute he was; I would put the puppet on my finger and demand, "just look at how cute he is!"

Besides being adorable these little puppets are a snap to make. We created a new Spring Wool Felt Bundle which you can find here (or you can find all of our wool felt bundles here) to help you get off to a quick start.  Plus, you can make the whole set of five (or more) in one evening with time to spare.   I think little handmade touches like these really make something like an Easter basket all the more special. If you'd like to make your own set please check out my Bunny Finger Puppet Journal.

Happy Easter!-- Molly

P.S. If you do find yourself with extra time you might want to check out these other quick Easter projects from The Purl Bee archives!:

I also love Easter, and these bunnies are adorable. I'm not sure how big the opening is, but they might make nice covers for lollipops.

I loved, LOVED this project! I'm always looking for a good little, non-edible treat to make for my young nieces and nephews and these finger puppets did the trick! I confess, Easter is not complete without chocolate bunnies, so I made a few with brown felt and I ended up lining all with various shirting plaid fabrics. You truly inspired me this Spring!

I made 6 of these for my grandsons in FL and boy are they cute .... both the bunnies and the grandsons! They were easy to send through the mail too. And the funny thing is that my daughter saw this post and considered making them but did not have the time. How great is that?!?! She email photos and the boys looked happy!!! Thanks so much for the idea and the pattern.
