The BIG Move Update: WE MOVED! Plus Customer Appreciation Party Details

We are thrilled to announce that The BIG Move was a great success! Thursday April 15th was our first day open at our brand new location, 459 Broome Street, NYC.  It has been incredible!  It has been such a pleasure to see so many familiar faces and great to meet new customers and all of our very friendly new neighbors. Thank you so much to everyone who has showed up to usher in our first days at Purl Soho, it means so much to see you all there!

Here are some snapshots of the new store.  Above is a picture of our check out area and winding station. It feels like such a luxury to have two registers and a dedicated place to wind yarn!

One of our favorite things about our new space is that all of our products are under one roof, you can find yarn and fabric and much more right here.  We hope this will breed some cross-craft projects, a sewn dress with a crocheted color maybe, or a knitted scarf lined with some beautiful printed fabric? The possibilities seem endless!

All of the space at our new location invites you to get up-close and personal with our products. Above is a picture of one yarn display area where we are keeping our cashmere yarn and other special fibers. If you ever visited our original location on Sullivan Street you might remember that our cashmere section was right above our cash register desk in a hard to access spot (sometimes we even had to stand on the desk to bring down colors)! We love that now you'll have the opportunity to really feel all the different weights and thicknesses and truly appreciate all of the amazing colors.

We also have so much more room to display Purl Bee projects. Above is a picture of our front display area. Readers of this blog might recognize the Felt Flower Pillows, New Years Garland, Fuzzy Easter Chicks, and Fun Kid's Hat among others!

All of these new changes are great but the absolute best thing about our new location is having more room to interact with all of our customers. We are so lucky to have such an incredibly dedicated and enthusiastic group of people as our customers.  So, to show our gratitude for all of your support we are throwing a Customer Appreciation Party on Saturday, April 24th from noon until 6pm.

This is going to be such a fun day! We will be hosting free raffles for goodies from all of our favorite vendors. Prizes will include fabric from Liberty of London, Yuwa, and Kona Cotton, yarn and patterns from The Fibre Company, Blue Sky Alpacas, and Imperial Stock Ranch, and a whole collection of books from STC Craft. This is just the tip of the iceberg prize-wise! We will also be serving free refreshments and giving away goodie bags full of amazing freebies to everyone who comes by.

During the party we want to share our new dedicated classroom with all of you so we are planning a series of demonstration workshops that are absolutely free! Below is the schedule, please call 212-420-8796 during our normal business hours to sign up as space is limited:

  • 1:00- 1:30- Hand sewing a Four Patch with Cassandra
  • 2:00- 2:30- Embroidery Basics with Sophie
  • 3:00- 3:30- How to Read a Knitting Pattern with Finlay
  • 4:00- 4:30- Beginning Knitting- How to Cast on with Calia
  • 5:00- 5:30- Needlepoint Basics with Laura

We really hope you can make it to this event but if you can't we're also having a raffle for our online customers with lots of great prizes. We'll be posting details about the prizes and how to enter for online customers on Wednesday, April 21.

Thank you so much for all of your support during this big transition. We hope to see all of you on Saturday April 24th for the party if not sooner!

What beautiful pictures and what a beautiful shop! The yarns and fabrics look yummy. I would have loved to come to the opening, but it is a little far from Orkney, Scotland. Wishing you a wonderful success in the future. You deserve it with all the hard work you do.

Your new store looks beautiful and very colorfull! Could you please send some luck over to the Netherlands? We're planning on flying to NY next Tuesday, but there's a volcanic cloud from Iceland blocking the way to the USA, and I *really* want to come and visit the Customer Appreciation Party. So I'll keep my fingers crossed!

The new store looks beautiful (of course!) I am looking forward to coming in, though I'm a bit scared what additional space will do to my already weak willpower when it comes to buying yarn and fabric.

My friend and I here in Western MA are DYING to take a trip to visit your store - it looks so inviting for two sewing/knitting/crafty ladies.

The new store and space looks fabulous; such an OPEN look and how the light enhances the yarn colors!! I love NYC and the SOHO area, but am now forced :) to live in Southern CA and do utilize the distribution center in Tustin as much as I can, but would love to visit you all in NYC. I lived on the Lower East Side for years a very long time ago during the sixties--way before SOHO was cool:).

Do keep us all posted on all the exciting activities. I wish you success with the new location; ENJOY.
