Molly's Sketchbook: Sewn Stash Baskets

I live in a small apartment with absolutely no storage which presents quite a challenge. As you may imagine I have quite a few plastic bins full of yarn, thread, needles, fabric, felt, and every other craft supply known to woman! These bins work well for storage but they don't do much for the decor! I decided to try to solve this problem by designing some stash "baskets" inspired by the Crocheted Stash Baskets that Whitney made a while back.

I used our gorgeous new Block Printed Linen from India as the base for all of my baskets. This fabric is sturdy and easy to work with and I love it's simple elegant print. I used the luminous Amy Butler Quilting Solids as lining and re-enforced the whole thing with heavy stabilizer. The result is a bag that's stiff enough to stand up on it's own and soft enough to be folded and stored away.

I love the idea that storage pieces can be as pretty as the things they're storing! If you'd like to make your own please visit my Sewn Stash Basket Project Journal here.

Happy sewing and storing!-- Molly

Lovely storage idea and that linen is gorgeous. Just wanted to point out that there is a page not found error with this project journal page. Thanks for all the inspiration and congratulations on the new store location!

Hm. Wonder what about 25 of these would look like lined up in my living room... My husband would love to see me organize my stash.

I've seen variations of these but your version is quite lovely. A perfect solution to that project containment problem so many of us struggle with!

What is stabilizer and how is it used in this pattern? I find it in the materials but not in the directions.

Thanks!

Sorry if this offends anyone, but...

"its" not "it's"

Hi Joey- The interfacing is used in the "cutting" and "sewing the panels" sections of the project journal directions.

Thanks for your question!- Molly

I have been considering using this linen to make a tunic top. Considering its use as a basket in this project, would it be too stiff for a shirt?
