Molly's Sketchbook: Hooded Baby Towel and Washcloth Set

We've mentioned the Purl Soho baby boom a few times in the last few months so it's only fitting that we introduce you to one of our brand new babies! This is Faye's beautiful daughter Mila from Purl Soho in New York City.

With all the new babies arriving I've had to think of a lot of baby shower presents and I decided to try sewing a towel and washcloth set since it seemed like it could be practical and fun. I've always loved the Michael Miller Organic Terry Cloth. It's super soft and since it's organic it seems like a natural choice next to a new baby's sensitive skin. To make this project more special I backed it with one of my favorite fabrics, Kokka's Sheer Floral in Blue Posies. I love this delicate print, it's so old fashioned and gives the towel a classic quality that I really like. I added a hood to the towel to make it more cozy but also because I love the way it looks. Doesn't Mila look like the cutest little elf!

This project is relatively quick and very simple to sew. I think it would make a perfect gift for your next baby shower!  If you'd like to make your own set please visit my Hooded Baby Towel and Washcloth Set Journal here.   Happy Sewing!-- Molly

This is so, so sweet. I never would have thought to pair the floral with the terrycloth and I love, love, love it. Both my sisters are pregnant and I have several friends with new babies as well. This is going on the 'To Make' list.

Thanks so much for such a sweet, simple little project!

I've made hooded towels in the past. I never even thought about adding fabric-it really dresses it up - great idea!

I made my first set and love it. I did cheat and use a set of towels I purchased, but when I did the cutting to get the measurements I cut off the more decorative ends. Thanks again for such a great idea.

This is my Go-To baby gift. I have made this already for 4 of my new mommy friends and my cousin has even requested larger versions of this for her two older girls. I am making two more right now (it's baby season, I guess!!!) and I'm actually altering it slightly making little hand pockets in the right and left corners...I'm doing it exactly the same as the hood, but smaller.

I made these for a baby gift and can't wait to make more, especially the washcloths!! I used quilting-weight cotton and bamboo terry. The bamboo terrycloth is soooo silky soft (hint, hint Purlbee! I hope you'll consider carrying some - maybe a bamboo jersey too.)

The cotton backing has the practical benefit of adding absorbancy as well as being adorable.
