Molly's Sketchbook: Ribbon Embroidery Pillow Cases

I have always loved ribbon embroidery, I love its texture and vintage feeling. As many of you know, we just moved our stores into a bigger space in New York and one of the perks is that we get to carry some items we never had room for before. When I saw that we were now carrying little packets of silk ribbon for embroidery. I knew I wanted to try it out so I took a handful of beautiful colors home for some research. It turns out that ribbon embroidery is very similar to regular embroidery, which I absolutely love, so it wasn't  long before I was hooked!

Armed with my new skill, I wanted to make something pretty that could show off what makes ribbon embroidery so special. I decided on pillow cases because they are such a fun and easy warm weather project and a perfect blank canvas. I used a solid white in the  silky smooth Organic Cotton by Cloud 9 Fabrics for the pillowcases. This fabric feels so amazing, like the sheets at a really fancy hotel! I embroidered a simple little bunch of flowers in cheery colors and then sewed the pillow cases with a deep hem. I love the results! This is one of those projects I'm going to be making over and over again; it's practical, easy to sew, and beautiful!

Wow... embroidered pillowcases! I thought I was the only person left on the planet that still embroidered them. I will definitely be adding some ribbon to the latest set I'm working on, in addition to using floss and pearl cotton.

Loved your new location - visited on your Grand Opening Saturday... plan to stop back soon.

Best of luck in your new store!
