Calling all Southern California Crafters: Purlsoho.com is Hiring!

We've mentioned a baby boom at Purl Soho a couple of times here on The Purl Bee.  Out of the three new babies at Purl Soho, two are from moms who work at our California website location (one born in February and the other due in July).   While we plan to get those two babies crafting as soon as possible, we don't think they will be quite ready to work at our website warehouse just yet.  That is why we need you!

If you are hard-working and friendly, love to organize, know how to knit or sew, (or even better, both), live in the Orange County, California area and are interested in pursuing an opportunity to work with us at our website warehouse in Tustin, California, please send us an email introducing yourself as well as your resume (in PDF format) at customerservice @ purlsoho.com!  We'll be accepting resumes through Sunday, May 9, 2010 and will respond to those who seem like the right fit the following week.

The Job

We are looking for someone who can begin with us part-time, but who is also interested in the potential to transition into a full time employee.

Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):

  • Answering the phone and helping customers.
  • Packing and shipping customer orders. This time sensitive task includes gathering, wrapping, and processing orders.
  • Unpacking and stocking inventory.  This includes receiving and organizing shipments, updating website inventory levels, photographing new products, processing photos in Photoshop and uploading them to our website.
  • Keeping track of inventory and placing orders.
  • Working hard and having fun.  It is two big rooms full of beautiful yarn and fabric after all!

If only you were opening the shop in Los Angeles I'd apply in a nano-second! I've got nearly all the skills for this job, not to mention knitting skills and excellent sewing skills - I've worked for many costume shops in LA!

If you'd like an instructor for sewing classes, I've been thinking of teaching beginning skills and can teach some great techniques for those who would like to move up to "advanced practitioners". It would be a bit of a drive but for teaching a class on the weekend, it might work and I could use the extra cash =-) Feel free to contact me if you're looking for instructors...

Good luck with your employee search! I'm sure you'll get LOTS of great submissions =-)
