Molly's Sketchbook: Cheerful Quilted Playmat

You may have noticed that we're a little baby-project-obsessed around here lately. We can't help it, with four new baby girls in the Purlsoho family we are totally inspired! This latest project grew not only out of our collective baby inspiration but also out of an intense desire to make something from one of our all time favorite fabrics. The Nani Iro Linen-Blend Pink Poster Fleur is such a favorite, in fact, that we almost can't keep it in stock! Its bright coloring and painterly graphic print is so unexpected and beautiful. We picked a subtle but also very unique grey dot to go with it and then we sewed them together simply to show them off.
We decided to make a playmat because it's a great gift for any time of year. You can throw it on the grass in August, or lay it on the living room floor in December. It's stuffed with our thickest cotton batting so it's soft and dense plus it's totally washable so you don't have to be precious with it. Best of all, even though it's hand quilted, it comes together really quickly since it's not basted. It's a perfect, breezy, end of summer project for any baby!
If you'd like to make one of your own please visit my Cheerful Quilted Playmat Project Journal here. --Molly
ps- If you'd like to make a non-pink version the Nani Iro Linen-Blend Poster Fleur comes in a lot of other great colors as well!
