Whit's Knits: Color Change Scarf

Purl Soho's most subtle yarns come from Habu Textiles. They tend to be extremely fine and very delicately colored. They also tend to leave customers scratching their heads, "I LOVE this yarn, but what can I possibly make with it?" A great answer has been Habu's all white Kusha Kusha Scarf pattern, but, for this project, I wanted to also engage with Habu's amazing spectrum of colors with my Color Change Scarf.

I envisioned a scarf that would shift from one color to the next, making a beautiful color journey from one end of the scarf to the other. Joelle, with her unique genius for color, picked these five Fine Merinos. While knitting, my excitement grew and grew as I introduced each new color. More like painting with watercolors than knitting with yarn, it was a fascinating process!

This simple lace ladder stitch is a perfect antidote to such fine yarn. With only two easy rows to memorize and so much open lace work, you'll be surprised how quickly you fly through this scarf. The result is a perfect accessory for fall that will inspire you every day! For instructions on how make your own, please visit our Color Change Scarf Project Journal. Thanks! - Whitney

Hello,

I'd like to order the yarn to make this but I will be ordering online - is there anyone who works at the Purl Soho shop that could recommend 2 additional colors that look good with black, charcoal, and bordeaux? I'm not partial to those three colors but that's what I'm leaning towards.

I could also make the scarf using only 4 colors.

I'd greatly appreciate any advice - I don't trust myself to pick colors online when I cannot see them in person.

Habu yarns are beautiful and they beautifully knit up Cocoknits patterns (shells, light sweaters, etc.). The designer, Julie, often recommends using Habu yarns. This scarf is gorgeous, by the way.

This is so neat, I love it! When I first thought of the scarf it reminded me of watercolor paints, and then I read your comment and thought, Wow, this really does resemble watercolor!

Can't wait to make this! How warm is this yarn?

That reminds me of the progression-dyed handspun & knit scarf a friend made: http://www.ravelry.com/projects/dailyfiber/up-from-the-deep-scarf

Would it be possible to post color suggestions for this project in other colorways -- blues, greens, roses, grays, etc.? It's such a beautiful scarf, but since this yarn isn't carried by my LYS, I need your eyes to tell us what to choose. Thanks.
