Whit's Knits: Colorblock Hand Warmers

For me, the sweet spot of knitting is when it starts to feel a lot like painting. When the form is fluid and mutable and when the palette is supple and free, then I feel that knitting really hits its creative stride. Creating these Colorblock Hand Warmers delivers just that kind of deeply satisfying experience.

The idea behind these simple mitts was to give free rein to the gorgeous colors of Madeline Tosh Merino Light, to allow the spectacularly hand dyed palette to speak its own story and to create its own beauty: from moonlight gray to buttery yellow to bronzed apricot to blazing tangerine.

Follow your own color whimsy or take a page from our book. Either way, everything you need to know is right here at our Colorbock Hand Warmers Project Journal! Thanks!  -Whitney

Those handwarmers are beautiful! I'm dreaming of them in a bright rainbow (turquoise, lime green, yellow, bright orange) colorway!

I love knitting best when I love the colors and how they look and flow together or if there are many beautiful shades within one color. I've stopped knitting when I've found the color I'm working with too distasteful - at least for me. These are beautiful and I am inspired to try them! thanks.

Gorgeous. Do you know of any certified organic yarn that would be suitable for this pattern?

Hi RW-

We don't have a plan for a crocheted version now but if you'd like to give it a try we would recommend using a size C crochet hook.

Thank you for your question!

Hi Nina,

Yes! Swan's Island's Fingering ( http://www.purlsoho.com/purl/products/item/6281-Swans-Island-Fingering ) is a beautiful option! One hundred percent organic merino wool and naturally dyed colors too!

Thanks for your great question!

Hey, Whitney, How would one go about adapting these for a L/XL? And/or for a longer arm warmer? Could you get away with just...knitting more, or would you need to change the dimensions as you get up closer to the elbow? Thanks!
