Whit's Knits: The Eleventh Hour Blanket

It's not too late to wrap your favorite people in hand knit love! True, starting a knitted blanket now would normally be a recipe for big time holiday stress; but since we should all banish yuletide overdrive from our lives, I decided to design a blanket that, even if you worked at a leisurely pace, you could start now (or next week!) and be done in plenty of time for Christmas!

Of course, for this plan to work the blanket would have to be the kind of beautiful gift you love to give. And so for inspiration, I turned to a perennial Purl Bee favorite, the Eleventh Hour Scarf, and borrowing the concept, the yarn and the stitch pattern, the Eleventh Hour Blanket was born!

Doubling Cascade's very soft and very bulky Magnum means not only a quick knit, but a deep and toasty blanket, perfect for cuddling and snoozing. It may not be the eleventh hour to the holiday season, but as far as knitting blankets goes, it is! So get started here with our Eleventh Hour Blanket Project Journal! And thanks! -Whitney

I think I will make one of these! Thanks for the great idea. I"ve been trying to knit my mother a very pretty, intricate, cashmere scarf for probably 2 years!!!! So, unmotivated. Cashmere is like knitting thread. LOL!

Looking through the instructions for this blanket, I am so impressed at how there are proper instructions for all the techniques.
As someone who likes figuring things out and a challenge, your site is a dream come true (i.e. newbies included).
I was so hoping to make a blanket this year - and now I know how long it takes to knit (my first project, one-third done, was your ric rac scarf), I am so excited because of this quicker pattern. Thank you so much :)

What a cozy blanket -- and I love that you knit it up in white with the contrast trim. Gorgeous!

Beautiful, and perfect timing - I was planning to adapt the Pixie Dust Lap Blanket for a bigger throw as a wedding gift. Only thing is, both the Magnum and Pixie Dust shed a lot - just tested the Magnum at my local yarn store by rubbing it on my black coat and whew! I need a lint roller. I think I shall sub out the Spud and Chloe Outer - not so lusciously fluffy, but easier care and less likely to make a mess of their dark-colored couch. Thanks for this lovely pattern, I'll be hitting purlsoho for the needles and yarn!

I just made this for my sister and her husband-- what a fun knit! She wanted it to be washable, so I made it in Lion Brand Homespun. My first time knitting with acrylic; it wasn't too bad and the blanket turned out beautifully. Will be doing another one in Homespun for my mother-in-law as a TV-watching blanket; but when I do one for myself I think I'll splurge and use cashmere (yum!).
