Whit's Knits: Spring Hoodie

I have a favorite zip-up sweatshirt that I wear all spring long. I love the way the hood spills over the back of my coat, and I also love to pull the hood up over my head when spring's breezes turn unexpectedly chilly. I thought it would be cool to pare my hoodie down to its most essential part, the hood itself. I knit up this Spring Hoodie to be my all-occasion companion, with a cowl neck for elegance and warmth and a bright ring of color for fun.

For such an everyday, every season accessory I turned, of course, to Koigu Premium Merino (KPM). A Purl Soho favorite, KPM is the perfect three season yarn. One hundred percent merino wool, it has a distinctively tight spin and a luminous palette of hand dyed colors. KPM sets itself apart not only with the beauty of its colors, but also with its resilience and durability. Its soft merino never stretches out of shape or looks tired (don't you wish you were like that?).

If you'd like to get started making your own trusty hood, please visit our Spring Hoodie Project Journal. Thanks! - Whitney

Thanks for this hoody! I just bought a hood made by a Swedish design company Hope and wanted to make one and you guys beat me to it. The version I bought has a scarf attached to the neck portion so that I can wrap it alll around my neck and when I get too warm, just pull it off and it stays on my back. So convenient! I think I'll try your pattern and adapt it to be like the hood I just purchased. s

LOVE the hoddie/cowl! Where's the jealous button?

My recent knitting has been for my niece's wee little girl due to arrive in mid-June. Hopefully that knitting/sewing/quilting will be done soon and I can whip something up for myself:-)

This is indeed darling and a great idea for those of us who travel on public transportation in windy and sometimes wet urban locations (hello Chicago!). I need one in black. I'm passing a wish list along to my handier self.
I didn't think the other post was spooky at all. I thought it was quite elegant. This version is fun, but I think I'll leave out the pom-pom as I like a more classic look.

Helpful post on sewing. Thanks for describing how you made a pull-over hood with the colorful ball end to match your sweater.

~ * ~ YES ! This is perfect for me to knit now, having just had mastectomy surgery last week I am able to begin knitting again a little at a time. oh Joy ! What a great classic style which can have so many different looks with the type of yarn chosen. I would love it in infant & two year old sizes too, please please. Its a terrific spring hoodie/scarf. Sometimes I have improvised on patterns to make them smaller, but would SO appreciate you taking the guesswork out of it for me.
Superb design !!!
many thanks,
Shell ~

Just finished making it--LOVE it! Made it in a dark brown and used the leftover Koigu merino/silk from the lace anklet pattern for the trim--worked like a dream. Thanks once more for such a great pattern. I've made so many of your patterns--I am a huge fan!
