New Classes at Purl Soho!

We are thrilled to unveil our latest class schedule! Not only are we offering a slew of new courses, but we also have a new and improved online format that you can check out right here. On this page you will see many of our trusty standbys such as Beginning Machine Sewing, Beginning Knitting and Beginning Crochet, but you'll also see some exciting new additions.  We're particularly excited about our new applique class, where you will learn to make the needle-turned appliqued flowers pictured above  as well as our brand new spinning classes for both drop spindle and spinning wheels

We've been wanting to move into the world of spinning for a long time so when we finally took those first steps, we turned to a dear friend and amazing teacher, Cassandra Thoreson, for advice on fiber, wheels, spindles and more.

Cassandra is a textile and fiber artist who is inspired by innovation everywhere she finds it.  She has been teaching at Purl for more than five years and loves to share her enthusiasm for all kinds of handwork in her classes, she has taught students and Purl Soho employees just about every class you can imagine. It is not simply her precision or vast knowledge that makes Cassandra such an outstanding teacher, but also her ability to communicate and share her vast knowledge with any students at every level.  Her classes this season include: Applique, Beginning Machine Sewing IQuilt Making by Hand, Quilt Making by Machine, Intro to Spindle Spinning and Beginning Wheel Spinning.  We recommend that you check them out!

Be sure to check out all of our classes right here!

Hi Kate-

Thanks for your question. We would be happy to get the supplies together for you if you call the store, 212-420-8796. Unfortunately we don't have the pattern available for sale outside the class at this time, although it's something we might consider offering in the future.

Thank you!-- Molly

Love the appliqued linen bag? Did Cassandra use cotton for the appliqued flower?

Thanks for your comment C.M.

Yes, the flower and stem are both made of quilt weight solid cotton.

Thanks!
