Whit's Knits: Bamboo Wedding Shawl

My wedding was over ten years ago, and at the time it felt like a big, swirling blur. But now I can remember every single detail like it was yesterday, from my red sequined shoes to the strawberry cobbler.

With the gift of time, I'm going to offer some totally unsolicited advice. It is this: the absolute, very best way to make your day memorable is to infuse it with details that come from your heart, such as... a beautiful hankdknit shawl!

I truly believe that handknit objects have power. As you or someone you love knits this Wedding Shawl, it will become steeped in the hopes and dreams of your big day. And as your wedding night cools down and you wrap your shawl around your shoulders, you will not only look drop dead gorgeous, but you will be reminded of those hopes and dreams, and you will take an important minute to thank your lucky stars!

This Wedding Shawl gets its extraordinary drape and beautiful shine from Habu's Bamboo 20/12. In pristine white, Habu's Bamboo is a perfectly cool choice for spring nights. Knit up in a simple, geometric pattern called Flemish Block Lace, the result is an understated elegance that never goes out of style.

For the materials and pattern and to add something extra special to the big day, please visit my Bamboo Wedding Shawl Project Journal. Thanks! - Whitney

Gorgeous! That is going right into my Ravelry queue, and I've been married to 7 years and have no idea when I'm going to another wedding. :-) It's just a gorgeous, must-knit pattern!

This is absolutely beautiful. I'm going to have to see if my LYS has this yarn, it looks scrumptious.

You are so right. It's the details and that shawl is definitely an heirloom.

Lovely! I knit my own wedding shawl in 2006, using some beautiful silk yarn from the old Sullivan St. store. I got the lace pattern from you, too, although I can't remember what the name of it was. It was simliar to this one, though more diamond-y. I agree that a personal touch like this makes the day memorable –and also last and last. I still wear the shawl every once in a while and am proud to have made something for myself - so often we craft for others!

The thing I like about this shawl is that it can your Wedding Day for the rest of your life if you end up falling in love with this shawl, which I can see happening....and actually wearing something from your wedding, besides your ring, is something everyone should do!

This is also a lovely keepsake to pass down through generations. We have my great grandmother's venetian lace wedding collar and it connects me to my past in such a tangible way. Beautiful job!

Boy I wish I were getting married again and had someone to make this for me. It's just beautiful.

Lovely pattern! Can't get it out of my head.

My mind is immediately wandering to the huge number of blankets I have to make... So this may be made as a blanket (same pattern with a bigger yarn/needle, probably fewer repeats to keep it a reasonable size - 60x70 or so?) for a dear friend's housewarming gift!

I love that it feels old-fashioned with the hand-knit lace and yet so modern, with a nod to the chevron trend. How perfect for weddings and other new beginnings in life!

Absolutely gorgeous! I am only beginning to dabble in knitting and this is so incredible, I might have to drop all of my other projects and steam full speed ahead. Beautiful shawl, beautiful idea. Thank you so much for sharing it!
Really this is just hauntingly lovely, and as was already said, I've been thinking about it incessantly since I first saw it. I've decided I must make it! Although, too, I've been married for 15 years. Gorgeous.

My sister knitted a gorgeous lace shawl (whose scalloped edge mirrored some of the detail in my dress) for me for my wedding almost a year ago and I'll never forget what a beautiful, comforting addition it was to my day. And now I have a lovely keepsake that can be passed on. She isn't married herself, but just started a serious relationship, and I hope to return the favor for her one day.

This shawl looks absolutely lovely! And, with the bamboo, I bet it feels amazing on the skin! I'll have to remember this pattern.

Does anyone know where I can get a suitable yarn for this shawl? I live in the West Palm Beach area.
