Whit's Knits: Sunshine Scarf

I feel a little guilty divulging this information, as if I'm betraying the whole rest of the spectrum, but I have to admit that I have a favorite color... yellow. And not just any yellow, not baby yellow or lemon yellow or mustard yellow, but deep and bright and clear sunshine yellow, the kind of yellow that emits its own light and whistles its own carefree tune.

When it comes to this kind of yellow, Alchemy is the master, hands down. Alchemy's yellows are saturated and fresh, like pollen-soaked blossoms. Using them to make a scarf in August feels like the perfect way to bring the heat of summer into the upcoming crisp nights of autumn.

While Madeline Tosh's beautiful Tosh Merino Light serves as the soft, neutral ground, Alchemy's Kozmos provides the entertainment, not only with its splash of intense color, but also with its play of texture: a little fuzzy, a bit shiny, and a lot gorgeous!

To get your own kick start on autumn just visit my Sunshine Scarf Project Journal!  Thanks! -Whitney

I love this scarf! I'm not a real color-whiz, and the yellows are not a good match for my coloring... can you suggest an equally vibrant mix in the blue family? I love the turquoise, but what to go with it? Thanks!

@MaryEllen, you'd probably need to see the yarns in the flesh, as it were, to be sure, but I reckon either 'Blue Moon' or 'Morning Glory' would work really well with the 'Turquoise Pool'. I once endured a couple of horrible weeks as a summer temp in the famous "scarf hall" at Liberty in London, and there was a lovely scarf there that was unbleached linen plus turquoise and navy. (A girl asked me to try it on to help her guess if it would suit a friend, and told me I should buy one for myself. I had to point out that it cost about 3 days' pay!)

Absolutely gorgeous. Love the colorway. This scarf can be worn year round in California. Thanks for posting. This scarf will definitely go in my project queue.

Wonderful, warm sunny colours. The lightest colours do look like unbleached linen in the photo, so it looks less luxuriously soft than it probably does. No matter, I may try this. Trendy Toronto's into black, so in contrast I knit bright scarves

Hi MaryEllen,

I agree with Nina that the Blue Moon would be really gorgeous with the Turquoise Pool. It would be very rich and dramatic! For a softer look, I would try the Vinca with the Turquoise. Either way, I think you're going to end up with a really beautiful scarf!

Thanks for asking!

The only way to knit this scarf is to come back to New York and sit in your sunny shop and knit away. Well, as that is not going to work I guess I will have to just order everything and hope the sun shines as I am knitting away. Great color- and I love grey so will be a touch of sunshine!
