Laura's Loop: New Year's Needlepoint Clutch

It is an undeniably magical night, and happily, it is just around the corner… New Year’'s Eve, the glitz and glamor night of the year!  Shoes shined and lips glossed, we'll all wave a fond farewell to 2011 one minute and the very next, greet 2012 head on. We'll celebrate the accomplishments of last year, while we bubble over with hope for what's to come.

I haven't picked out my dress yet, but no matter what I wear, I will definitely be holding my New Year's Needlepoint Clutch. It has such a feeling of whimsical elegance, I know that I'll be gracefully prepared for whatever the night may bring! With a practical form and minimalist style, this clutch is perfectly finished with the gorgeous, simple and rugged Koigu Premium Merino. Subtly hand dyed color and a refined spin emit a surprising and beautiful shimmer. Pops of dark raspberry and moody dark cherry pack a punch and lend a pinch of surprise, just like New Year's Eve!

This year, I plan to dance the night away, clutch in hand, ready for any adventure 2012 might bring. Happy holidays and all the best this coming year!!! –Laura

Laura's Loop: Paint Pail Mittens

There was always an art project when I was growing up. Between Mom and Aunt Julie, I was constantly drawing and building, cutting and pasting, tie dying and finger painting. Recently I was reminded of those special times as I watched Aunt Julie and my 3-year-old niece deeply engrossed in paint mayhem. Little Gwyneth’s fingers were all shades of the rainbow. Having eschewed paintbrushes for fingertips, she swirled the paints around with reckless abandon, wondering when someone might stop her!

The Paint Pail Mittens are a nod to those carefree days of dipping fingers into buckets of bright paint. Knit primarily in the sumptuous Swan’s Island Worsted organic merino and topped off with Madeline Tosh’s Tosh Merino in the electric Edison Bulb color, you and your favorite crafting buddy will make quite a duo!

This simple pattern includes six sizes, from 2 years to Adult Men’s Large. One skein of the Swan’s Island Worsted makes one kids and one adult pair. And one skein of the Tosh Merino will be ample contrast color for at least three pairs of any size. You will also need a set of US #5 and US #6 double pointed needles and a Paint Pail Mitten Pattern, which you can purchase right here!

Happy crafting and happy winter! --Laura

Laura's Loop: Felt Star Pendant and Tree Topper

Twinkling lights on park trees and glass balls hung in shop windows,  little by little it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in New York City! I know some people can be a bit Grinch-y about the commercialism of the holiday season, but it’s hard to resist the special feeling of Christmas in the city. It’s contagious!

Inspired by this burgeoning holiday cheer, we’re starting to feather our holiday nests with these lovely felt ornaments. Laura designed an elegant 3-dimensional Felt Star that will look equally beautiful hung from a doorway or perched atop a tree. And Molly designed a set of graceful Felt Snow Ball Ornaments that will add a playful Christmas feeling to your tree or mantle.

Felt is our favorite ornament-making material because it’s soft, natural, and so easy. Ecru is especially lovely because it’s peaceful, classic, and reminiscent of a fresh blanket of snow.  And to add a little holiday sparkle we accented our ornaments with the beautiful new DMC metallic thread.

ps. The how-to’s for Molly's Snow Ball Ornaments are right here. And Merry Christmas!
