At first glance it may not seem that a hard-shelled, scaly-skinned reptile would be all that likable, but there’s just something about turtles that sparks the imagination. Maybe it’s their uniquely shaped shells, like tiny traveling houses. Or perhaps it’s because of their wise-looking countenance and unhurried manner. Whatever the reason, these ectotherms have captured our fancy!
Our Myrtle the Purl Turtle is just as appealing as her real life counterpart, only much more huggable. Her big, cuddly size and soft Liberty of London shell make her a fun pillow-like companion, perfect for sleepovers and keeping the bed warm. And despite a real turtle’s sluggish reputation, this pattern is super quick to sew!
Myrtle’s shell is made with Liberty of London’s bright, beautiful Tana Lawn; her body is rustic Essex linen; and her underside is vibrant 100% wool felt. These lovely, sturdy materials ensure that your turtle will be around for just as long as a real one! My daughter recently moved from the infant room of her daycare into the toddler room. There were a lot of changes for little Lupe that day: new teachers, new snacks, and a new naptime routine. Instead of being put into her very own crib whenever she seemed tired, she was now expected to sleep on a mat on the floor at the same time as all the other squirmy toddlers in the class. I was worried that Lupe wouldn’t adjust well to communal sleeping, but she seemed to like it and is now a champion napper!
To keep up her new routine when we're on the go or traveling I made this pretty Nap Mat with a blanket and a pillow built right in. It’s made from just two pieces of fabric: Railroad Denim for durability and strength and Liberty of London's Tana Lawn for softness and beauty. And for a really cozy snooze the Nap Mat is stuffed with lofty wool batting. The whole thing sews together in a jiffy!
Bring your Liberty Nap Mat to an afternoon at grandma's; set up a special nap corner in your own house; and when a child's not sleeping in it, the Nap Mat is as a lovely place for teddy bears and stuffed bunnies to rest!Everything you need to make your own is available in our Materials for Liberty Nap Mat kit right here! -Molly

School is out and the parks are full of kids throwing water balloons, eating soft-serve, and having the time of their lives. Every bit of it reminds me of how much fun those long, hot days of my childhood summers were. Lately though, my summer days feel, well... just long and hot.
Wanting to rekindle that carefree summertime spirit, I made these simple Drawstring Backpacks that are reminiscent of the small sacks we all toted around at summer camp. It's still the perfect carry-all for all my July necessities: a great paperback, sunscreen, and a few dollars for the ice cream truck!
It was an easy choice to pair this classic bag with the most classic of all fabrics, Liberty of London's Tana Lawn. Playful, summery prints plus a barely-there lightweight cotton makes Liberty just right for a hot weather tote. And another a little reminder of my 1980’s childhood: a pop of neon for the straps!
Knowing that everyone in my family (and yours!) would want in on these sweeties, I made them in three sizes, from toddler to adult. So to outfit everyone for some summertime fun, pick up a Materials for Drawstring Backpack kit, and since they only take about an hour to make, you’ll be back at the park in no time. - Corinne
